My indoor cat has a severe skin disease. How can I help her?

My feline female cat (indoor cat) has developed a severe skin disease. She only goes outside to the balcony. However, there are stray cats that normally roam into the apartment complex. I feel totally lost and wish to bring my cat back to her normal way of being. Can you help?

Your cat is gorgeous! Without seeing her in person or knowing that the skin disease looks like, my best advice is to take her into a vet first thing in the morning. The only way to bring her back to normal is have the cause of the skin disease diagnosed so it can be treated correctly. I would take her into the vet on Monday. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Poor girl. This appears to be two possible wounds which can be caused by her trying to go underneath the bed/couch or any tight space. Or this could the start of skin allergies, although ti does not have the typical presentation of a skin allergy, which can be food related or to something in her environment. Indoor cats are still at risk for food allergies due to dust mites, molds, chemicals, detergents, etc. The scabbing is due to infection on the skin which causes the hair to come off. I would recommend taking Shadow to your vet soon to get her on an antibiotic to hopefully help these lesions heal. She also may be prescribed a steroid if allergies are suspected. For now you can try cleaning the areas with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help antiseptically clean the area. I hope that your fur baby Shadow heals these wounds soon! Please my cat have a skin issue, may you help me please
Oh my. I can see that your pet has a severe infection here. You wil need to take your kitty to the vet to have this taken care of unfortunately. This is too severe to treat at home. Until you can get her seen its best to soak this area well with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help antisepitcally clean it. The vet ill need to get her on oral antibiotics or an injectable antibiotic that they can give that lasts for 2 weeks. She also will need to have this area shaved to remove the hair and possibly a topical prescribed by your vet. I do hope that your fur baby Crunchie is able to get this resolved soon! Poor girl! I cannot say for sure what caused these but it looks like she needs to be seen by your vet. Your vet will be able to take a closer look to what the cause may be and whether or not they need to be addressed with some meds like antibiotics, burn creams, or pain meds. The fact that the hair is gone and the skin is really red makes me think of some type burn (cold or heat) or an allergy of some sort or even over grooming. I worry if left untreated, it could get worse or keep spreading. If she is itching, you could try Benadryl but keep a close eye on her. Hello sir..i have two pet cats and bith are female they are suffering from skin deseage but I don't have any near by veterinary hospital..so pls hive some medics name and help me to treat them
Unfortunately, there is no generic medication that will just treat general skin disease, and the problem requires being seen by a vet in order to narrow down the cause of the illness and the appropriate treatment. Issues such as parasites, fungal diseases, infections of the skin, nutritional issues, etc can all cause skin issues so this is why it is important to have a veterinary exam done. Until you can find a vet, you can use an Elizabethan (cone) collar to keep the cats from licking or chewing at any affected areas. Keeping any wounds clean and dry may help, as well as making sure both cats are on a balanced diet and treated for parasites. However, if the problem persists, it needs to be seen.

poor girl! First I would make sure she is on a high quality flea preventative made for cats. One flea bite can cause an allergic reaction like this. I would also try to find a new vet since your last vet is now retired. I would talk to your vet about potentially give her a long acting steroid injection like depo-medrol to help decrease the itch and help with the hair regrowth. The steroid injection can stay in their system for 8 weeks and most cats tolerate them really well if they are healthy enough for the injection. Your vet will be able to tell whether or not she needs an antibiotic as well. If this is due to allergies, the best way to control it is to control the allergies. I would start with the flea control. If she has fleas, keep in mind that fleas don't live on the pet but in the environment so I would have your house and yard treated for fleas. I would also all other animals in the house are also being treated with a monthly flea preventative. I hope this helps!

I need to know how to treat my cat's disease. I have male cat. Age is greater 6 months. He weighs 5 pounds. He health looks normal other than this skin problem. I am anxious to know how to treat. Please give brief recommendation on his health
You need to take him to a bet asap!! His skin is terrible! It looks like it is infected with yeast, bacteria or mange mites, but i suspect it is a combo. It neefs treated with an antiparasite, antibiotics, medicated shampoo and antinflammatories. Do not attempt to treat at home, it is way beyond that.

Poor Caty! From your pictures, it appears she has either cuts or a rash (it's hard to tell from the photos unfortunately). I would have her seen by a vet for these problem. The vet can diagnose what is causing it, and can treat her for it. Good luck, I hope it helps!

Those look like pretty inflamed lesions. There are a few things that come to mind. Cats can get an autoimmune condition called eosinophilic granuloma that requires steroids for treatment and maybe antibiotics to control secondary infections. Check the house and make sure there's no possibility should could have touched something very hot or gotten into anything that could cause a chemical burn. Lastly, fleas and ringworm can be brought in on your shoes/clothing although this would be an abnormal presentation. Rarely, pets can get skin cancer that looks similar to this. I recommend to have Shadow checked out by her veterinarian since this is a mystery and she has two lesions. It's better to be safe. I recently moved to Costa Rica and there are a lot of stray cats here. Most of them are healthy and seem happy but there is one who sometimes comes to my house who has scabs on her legs and back. They’re really big and crusty. The last time she came
Poor kitty. Unfortunately without having this cat seen for a physical exam and treated once the underlying cause for the scabs is found, you won't be able to help much. Most skin issues in cats involve an allergy, and this will require either medication in the form of an injection that the vet can give or an oral medication that is prescribed. Cats don't really respond well at all to medication found over the counter for skin allergies and most medications that can be tried in dogs are not well tolerated in cats, so we have to be very careful with them. I would recommend trying to trap this kitty somehow so you can take it in to see a vet soon. You can also try to apply a flea preventative (i.e Advantage, Revolution) in case it has a flea allergy that is causing these skin lesions. This may help some, but from your description, this kitty likely also has a secondary bacterial infection that needs to be treated with prescription antibiotics as well. I do hope that this poor cat

Any idea what this sore might be? Just came across it today.
Unfortunately it's really hard to tell from the picture, because many skin issues look the same in a cat. I would be concerned about an allergy (allergies to fleas, food, or the environment being the most common causes), or possibly a skin parasite that is causing itching. I would recommend a vet visit for a simple test called a skin scrap in which they will look at some skin cells under the microscope to see if they can find any organisms, and then treat accordingly.
