My puppy keeps eating dog poop and dirt. What can I do to stop her?

I have 3 dogs. 11 and 12 ,and pup who is 9 mo old I have had nothing but trouble with her eating the other 2 dogs poop. Shes like right there waiting for it to come out. Impossible to stay ahead of her and I always keep the yard clean. When she cant get the poop, she eats dirt. I feed her a very good brand of dog food seeing that she gets all the vitamins she needs. What can I do. If its not the other twos poop then its dirt or rabbit turds.

I would make sure she is up to date on her deworming treatments. Intestinal worms can cause a dog to eat feces. Also deworm all of your dogs if they are all not up to date on that treatment. You may need to keep her on a short leash while outside to potty to keep her from eating the other dogs' feces and keep her from eating the dirt. Take her out to potty on the leash, let her do her business, then take her back inside right away so she doesn't get a chance to eat anything she shouldn't. Good luck, I hope this helps!

This can be a common problem. Make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments, as intestinal worms can lead to poop eating. Also make sure he is eating a high quality puppy food. Hello,my 5 month shit zu puppy keeps eating her feces ,she has done it before too,but it seems like it is getting worse and worse,i mean it is becoming more frequent.i seriously have no idea how to stop her from doing that?!
Puppies will eat their own stool out of boredom, curiosity or in an attempt to correct a nutritional deficiency. You can use a product called FOR-BID that may prevent this behavior. It is a powder that is sprinkled on food. You can usually get it from your veterinarian. Leash walk her and pick up stool immediately. Restrict her access to areas where there is stool. Puppies will usually outgrow this behavior.

Restrict her access to areas where there is feces. Walk her on a leash to prevent her from reaching feces. Pick it up immediately after she has completed her business. You can also use a product called For-Bid. It is a powdered food additive that imparts a bitter taste to stool to prevent a dog from eating it. The additional vitamins will likely have no effect on this behavior. Dogs will eat stool out of boredom, curiosity or to correct a nutritional deficiency. Be sure to feed a balanced diet. Review her diet with your veterinarian if necessary.

How do I keep my puppy from eating feces, not just her own; she searches for it everywhere!
Aw Sarah is very cute! Stopping a determined dog from eating feces can be tough! It's certainly an unappealing behavior and can lead to the spread of disease and parasites. To stop Sarah from eating her own feces you can try a product like For-bid or try feeding Sarah a small amount of pineapple juice. Both these things change the flavor of the feces so Sarah won't want to eat it. As far as other dogs poop, this can be much more challenging. Constant vigilance while she is outside to make sure she can't get any feces or training her to wear a basket muzzle at all times while outside are really the only way. You can also try to train her to know the "leave it" and "drop it" commands incase she does pick up feces. Keeping Rocky away from anything poop-like is the best to keep him from eating it. That may mean keeping him on a leash when outside going potty in the yard, or keeping him in a laundry room or kitchen that is easy to clean so you can get to it quickly before he eats it. Anything remotely edible that isn't food, treat, or a chew toy should be moved out of reach. Crate training, which is useful for potty training can also help deter accidents in the house and chances for him to eat poop. For-bid and other products can also be given to all your pets to make the stool less tasty to him. If he's having diarrhea in addition to trying to eat everything, ruling out any issues such as parasites or GI problems with your vet is a good idea.

Puppies eat their poop for a couple of reasons. One is that they simply like the taste, which is disgusting. Another reason is intestinal worms. I wold take Aika into the vet with a sample of her feces so the vet can determine if she does have intestinal worms, which are common in puppies. Should she have intestinal worms, the vet can prescribe a deworming treatment for her. You did the right thing by tell her no, and if you notice her trying to eat her poop again, distract her right away with a toy or some love and attention. Move her away from the poop right away when she's done.

My dog eats my other dogs poop. She has done this since she was a puppy. Nothing I do will stop it. She is 1 1/2 years old. I have tried sprays and putting distaste in her food. Could she be vitamin deficient?
It could be Luella Rose is suffering from a nutritional deficiency, she could have intestinal worms, or it may be she simply likes the taste. Make sure you are feeding her a high quality dog food like Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. Also make sure her deworming treatments are up to date. I hv a Gsd puppy of 45 days. Feeding her royal canin starter since 3/4 days n curd. I hv noticed she at times eating her own poop. What can be the reason? Lack of calcium? Can I feed her milk?
She's cute! Eating poop (coprophagia) is actually very very common in dogs. Studies have been done looking for anything that might be missing from a dog's diet to make them develop this habit, and no link has been found - it seems some dogs simply like to do it! So, there is no concrete reason, and there's nothing you can change about her diet to make her stop. I would discourage you from giving milk, as it may cause diarrhea. There are products out there such as For-Bid that can be added to her food and make her stool taste bad, to help discourage the behavior. But it mostly comes down to simply cleaning up after her before she gets a chance to eat her stool. Hope this helps!

How can I get my dog to stop eating other animals poop?
There really isn't a way to stop them from eating other animals stool. I would keep Precious on a leash and just not let her near it. Since she is so young she may grow out of it but there isn't anything to give her that will stop it. I would also make sure she is on a high quality food. I would check a stool sample with your veterinarian to make sure Precious has not picked up intestinal parasites from eating other animals stool. I also recommend heartworm prevention. The reason for this is not only for the heartworm prevention but it also prevents against the most common intestinal parasites that she could pick up from eating other animal's stool.
