Why is my old lab panting, not eating, eyes shut? Should I go to ER?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 11 years and 1 month old | 50 lbs

Trying to decide if we need to take our 10 y/o lab to the ER vet. She only stops panting for brief moments and is having trouble opening her eyes. We thought she might have conjunctivitis, but why would this make her pant uncontrollably? She also won't eat...not sure the last time she drank.

Panting can be a sign of pain and distress and if she is. It opening her eyes that is also a sign of pain. You can try to flush her eyes with saline eye drops to see if that helps. But with no appetite and constant panting I would take her in to be checked
