I think my dog has a fractured tail. I see a crooked part at the end of the line. Is it something to worry about?

Many dogs will naturally have a hemivertebrae, or partial vertebral bone in their tail. This can give the tail a kinked or broken appearance. If she let you touch it, wags it normally and does not appear painful than this may just be a natural variation. If there is swelling, or she seems painful, is holding the tail tucked or not moving it then she should be seen by a veterinarian to evaluate if there is a fracture or other injury. Any fracture is very concerning because it's not only painful to the dog, but it can also have a negative effect on the nerves in that area (i.e. compression on the nerves). If you are thinking Aurora has fractured her tail, I would take her into a vet right away. X-rays need to be done to confirm if her tail is fractured or not, and the vet can discuss treatment options for it. Good luck, I hope this helps!
