Is Profender dewormer safe for pregnant cats & kittens under 8 weeks?

I was told Profender dewormer is safe for pregnant cats and kittens 2 weeks and older. Is this true?

According to their package instructions, Profender is safe to use on pregnant cats before the birth of the kittens, but it cannot be used on kittens until they are 8 weeks of age. Panacur is safe on both pregnant cats and kittens as young as two weeks of age, and you can get that from the vet. I hope this helps!

She can be dewormed with pyrantel pamoate, which is the active ingredient in a number of commercially available dewormers for cats - you'll need to check labels and purchase one that contains pyrantel pamoate as its only active ingredient. The kittens can also be dewormed with the same product at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 6 weeks of age.

Can I deworm my female cat that's possibly pregnant
Many deworming products are not recommended once pregnancy is established. Tapeworm medications, in particular, can be quite toxic. If you are concerned that your cat has parasites, I recommend that you take a fecal sample to your veterinarian for examination. Your vet can identify the eggs of any parasites your cat may have using a test called a fecal float exam. S/he can then prescribe the safest, most effective dewormer to use in a pregnant cat for that particular parasite.

Great question! Drontal is an excellent deworming treatment, and it's safe to use in pregnant cats. You will need to get it from your vet, however, as it's a prescription medication. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately, neither of those options might be safe. We do not have very many safe deworming medications for pregnant animals. The active ingredient in Vermox is Mebenzazole which is considered FDA Pregnancy category C which means that animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus. The active ingredients in Praferan are Pyrantel, Febendal and Praziquantel. We do not have this product in the US available for cats. It is only available for dogs and is listed as NOT being recommended in pregnant dogs. The type of deworming medication recommended really depends on the type of worms that are present, so I think the safest option would be to ask your veterinarian for a recommendation for Minhu and the kittens once they are born. Feli D tablets seem to contain praziquantel and pyrantel pamoate, both of which should be safe to use in a nursing queen. The kittens are actually old enough to be dewormed as well if necessary, but you may need to use a different product since they are small.

Praziquantel, the medication most commonly used to treat tapeworms, is safe to use during pregnancy. I would however recommend consulting a veterinarian before giving any drugs to Stashie to make sure she is healthy enough for the medication. Tapeworms are most commonly transmitted through fleas, so you may want to inspect her for fleas as well.

Is it safe to administer Pyrantel Pamoate and Praziquantel to a lactaing mother cat? And how old must the kittens be before I can worm them? Also what age is it safe to give a flea treatment to the kittens?
I usually do not recommend using Praziquantel in lactating mother cats, Pyrantel Pamoate is usually fine and they can be dewormed from around 4 weeks of age. flea treatment can be given as soon as 2 days of age-- the ONLY safe product is Frontline spray.

All nursing moms should have at least 2 doses of dewormer 2-3 weeks apart. Worms are passed to kittens while nursing so it is highly likely that all the kittens have worms. The standard recommendation is to deworm all kittens at weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8 with pyrantel pamoate and make sure momma cat is treated as well.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. Panacur granules are not labeled for use in cats in the United States. It would be impossible to get a small enough dose measured out for a 1.5 pound kitten, therefore, it is not recommended. You can, however, use the Panacur liquid but that needs to be given once a day for 3-5 days in a row and is rather expensive. It can be purchased over the counter. Follow the dosing recommendations on the bottle. ( https://www.bestvetcare.com/panacur-oral-suspension-for-cats-and-dogs-pack-316.aspx ) It is better, and recommended, to give liquid PYRANTEL to kittens. You can also buy this over the counter. Follow dosing and frequency recommendations on the packaging but in general, the dose is 1.0mls per 10 pounds of body weight. You need to get a 1cc syringe and give 0.15mls right now as she is 1.5 pounds. You will need to increase the dosage each time as her weight will be increasing. This should not be given to kittens. First off, it's labeled for dogs only, plus it's only safe in puppies at least six weeks of age. Do not give this again to the kittens, and have them checked out by a vet in the morning to make sure they are ok. In terms of deworming, it's safe for them to have Panacur. I hope this helps!
