What is this small, red, painless bump on my dog's chest?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Female | spayed | 18 lbs

Hello. My dog has a bump about the size of a small pebble on her chest and it’s red. It doesn’t bother her when touched? What does that usually mean? Thanks

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your question. Based on the pictures you provided, I suspect what you are seeing on Dede is what we call a sebaceous adenoma / cyst, which is benign. This type of skin mass is nothing to worry about but just monitor for the time being. These can become much larger and become infected on occasion, in which case they can be removed. You can also talk to your vet about freezing the mass off. Sometimes the freezing treatment may take 2 or 3 treatments before the mass falls off. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further!
