Do I need to test my cat for heartworms before starting to use a flea control product that prevents heartworms? He spends a lot of time outside and may be exposed to hookworms and/or roundworms. He eats rats. What would be the best flea control product to use on him? I like the idea of using a flea control product such as Revolution or Advantage Multi that also prevents/controls some types of worms besides killing fleas. Would it be overkill to use such a product & also use Drontal periodically?

Cats do not require heartworm test prior to these medications. Drontal is a good idea to use with these as it covers tapeworms and those products do not. I like advantage multi as I feel it protects against fleas better
