My skinny, inactive kitten has black mouth substance. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female

She is 5 months old and very small and skinny as compared to her sibling. Her body temperature is always comparatively more. She's not at all active, rarely drink milk that too hardly a teaspoon. Now from 2 weeks there is some black substance has appeared around her lips. May I know what it is and what is the treatment for her?

BI’m so sorry to hear about Cherry. Unfortunately, her signs are non specific, meaning these signs could be cause by many things. I’m not sure what the black substance around the mouth is, but it may be that she is too sick or weak to clean her mouth. You can try deworming her (try drontal cat tabs or Excel cat roundworm liquid if you can get them). Treat her for fleas and ticks. You can also try high calorie food like Nutri-cal to help her gain strength. If those are not helping, you’ll have to visit the vet. Hope this helps and best of luck to you and Cherry!
