My cat got one FeLV shot. Is it still protected without a booster?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I run a nonprofit cat rescue organization & we do a LOT of TVNR. My question is... if a kitten/cat gets only ONE FeLV vaccination, without the follow up vaccine 3 to 4 weeks later, is it totally ineffective or does it do SOME good for protection? Thank you.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach! If you are unable to get the booster vaccines, then immunity is probably not 100% established. However, I do think that giving at least one vaccine is beneficial and provides some protection. There is still the risk that without boostering, these cats will still be vulnerable to the disease and without receiving future boosters may contract the disease later on. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
