My dog sneezes blood after antibiotics failed. Is it aspergillosis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 6 lbs

My dog has been sneezing for a few months. A month ago I tried an antibiotic for 2 weeks to no avail. Today she sneezed and a spattering of blood appeared and she has sneezed a few times since and still a slight spattering of blood. Could this be aspergillosis?

Poor Mazie! A fungal infection like aspergillosis is certainly one possible cause of persistent sneezing and nosebleeds that are not resolved with antibiotics. Other possibilities would include a nasal foreign body, or a nasal tumor. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about the next steps from here to try and get a diagnosis. In many cases, referral to a specialist for rhinoscopy and a CT scan is needed to determine the problem.
