My dog has an open hole near his penis leaking stool. What is it?

13 yr old lhaspoo had bladder stone surgery 1/26/18. Renal failure followed. Today found open hole above penis with stool seeping out. Watch would cause this? Treatment? Kody keeps licking the area. Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Male | neutered | 13 years and 1 month old | 30 lbs

I’m sorry to hear about Kody. I’m not sure where exactly you’re talking about but if it’s the area between the scrotum and the anus (beneath the anus) it is very likely to be a ruptured/abscessed anal gland. I recommend a vet visit tonight if possible, tomorrow at the latest to get it cleaned and flushed and to get the proper antibiotics for it if needed. If it is elsewhere, then I am even more concerned, as brown stuff coming out any other location would be a very serious problem. If this is the case you should see a vet immediately.
