Pregnant hamster with cage mate: How to prepare for babies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | 0.04 lbs

My pied roborovski(Stitch) seems to be pregnant but instead of creating a nest, she removed all the bedding in the little house. Is it normal or is there something wrong? She's now hoarding food in the house too and stays there most of the time. Also there's another hamster(Bambi) in the same cage(as seen in 2nd pic) and i'd like to get an advice on how to be prepared for Stitch.

Separate Bambi from Stitch for now. Her presence may be causing stress as the due date approaches. Clean the cage and replace bedding with fresh bedding. Provide a large enough hide for her and her litter. Remove and wheels temporarily to prevent injury to the pups (baby hamsters). Block off upper levels as well if necessary. Stitch should be eating a high protein diet and have plenty of water available at all times. Once she has the litter, do not disturb her for the first two weeks, this includes cleaning.
