My dog is neutered. Will he be healed for a sitter in 1 week?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 9 months old | 20 lbs

My dog is getting neutered next week and and we're going on 5-day vacation a week later. Will he be OK/healed by then? We're leaving him with a dog sitter, but wanted to triple check they wouldn't need to do anything special.

As long as Woody doesn't have any complications, I wouldn't have any concerns about you being gone a week later. Most post-surgical complications occur around the 3-5 days mark. If you have any trouble keeping him quiet (not running around, jumping, etc), your veterinarian can prescribe him a sedative to help the dog sitter keep him safe. So the short answer is, this will be fine in 95% of circumstances. Perhaps schedule a recheck appointment a day before you leave so the vet can look at his incisions and give you instructions for the dog sitter. Have a great trip!
