How to stop my Shih Tzu puppy eating feral cat poop in the country?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 21 days old | 6 lbs

My 5 month old shih tzu doesn’t eat his poop, but, will eat the feral cats poop. It’s hard to stop him since I live out in the country and there are lots of those cats. What can I do?

Unfortunately the only way to prevent it is either keep a strict eye on Bailey during his walks and try to distract him with treats and toys or use a muzzle to prevent the ingestion. You could use the muzzle for a limited time just to break this habit. Sometimes they lose the habit while growing. Please post again on the forum if you would like to discuss it further.
