My spayed dog has a small bleeding area. How should I care for it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 9 years and 4 months old | 15 lbs

How can I attend to this ? I am keeping my spayed bitch Jack Russell (9) clean with cotton pads and water but should I be doing anything else? She is bleeding a little but is not showing distress and will lay upside down on my lap quite happily whilst I clean her.

I would recommend putting an elizabethan collar on her so she cannot lick at the area. If she continues to lick at this area then it will not resolve. If she is not licking or the lesion is just not resolving then I recommend taking her to a veterinarian. They can evaluate the area to make sure there is no infection, growth, cut, etc. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
