My dog is sleeping and not eating after a friend died. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 16 days old | 8 lbs

My 7 months old cross breed dog is showing signs of illness, but has no real symptoms such as high temperature, pain, hot paws or ears hot nose, just sleeps won't eat. Recently her friend from 6 weeks old another bitch died 3 days ago, she seems to be suffering from grief. No blood in urine or stools, no coughing.

Sleeping more than usual and not eating can be signs of illness (infection, etc), so it is worth taking Pepsi in to see your vet. That being said, I do believe that dogs can get depressed when other pets or people in the family pass away. Sometimes patience and love is all they need. I usually see the depression last a few days to a couple months. Best of luck to you and Pepsi!
