Is my golden retriever's red thigh after TTA surgery normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | 4 years and 7 months old | 78 lbs

My golden retriever had TTA surgery on Tuesday and her inner thigh has gotten extremely red. At first I thought it was just going irritation but it seems to have only gotten worse. I haven't seen any discharge but her leg is still totally bandaged up. We have an appointment to follow up with my vet at 4 PM (CST) tomorrow. Can it wait until then? Should I call them first thing when they open? Or is this more of an emergency?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. What you are seeing is bruising and is common with orthopedic procedures. This should be ok to wait until tomorrow to be rechecked by the veterinarian that performed the procedure. By using typically resolved after the first couple of weeks. I hope this helps ease your mind! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
