Why does my spayed cat have a saggy belly pouch after surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 months and 14 days old | 10 lbs

My cat isn't overweight. She's 10 months and was Spaid at 5 months. She's starting to get a pouch where her scar was. It doesn't seem to hurt her but it's really grown in the last couple months. It feels like it's almost liquid inside. Should I be worried ? I really noticed it after bathing her. As her fur didn't hide it as much

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The extra skin that develops on the abdomen of cats sadly is normal when they gain too much weight after being spayed and neutered. I would try to portion control her food to prevent obesity as that leads to many health conditions. I hope this helps and I wish you and Luna the very best!
