I recommend giving Chico a bland diet, boiled chicken and white rice. If he becomes lethargic, there is blood or he isn't eating then I recommend taking Chico to a veterinarian. Also if the diarrhea isn't resolving after another day I would consider taking him to a veterinarian. They can make sure he is not dehydrated and run a stool sample to make sure he doesn't have intestinal parasites. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chico. If he is eating, drinking and acting normal without vomiting, then it is likely ok to monitor him. The diarrhea can take a bit of time to resolve. If he seems to be getting worse or starts vomiting again, then he will need to be seen a second time. I hope this information helps!

If Chaco is otherwise still active, playful, eating, drinking, and has not been vomiting, I think it is ok to just keep an eye on him for a couple more days. Offer a bland diet (such as plain cooked chicken and white rice) and monitor his appetite and activity level. If he hasn't been dewormed in the past 4 weeks, that would also be advisable. If his stools are not looking more normal in a few days, or if at any point he starts vomiting, acting like he doesn't feel good, or the stool becomes bloody, take him to your vet. Given Chici's size and age, he should be examined by your veterinarian. The fact that he's had diarrhea for three days is also concerning. Diarrhea has multiple causes. In small dogs and puppies, it can quickly lead to dehydration which may complicate any underlying medical condition. If he is not behaving normally, have him examined by your vet today. If he is behaving normally otherwise, you can try withholding food for 8-12 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte during this time. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal then transition slowly to the regular diet. Symptoms that require a visit to the veterinarian include, persistent diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting or abdominal pain.

The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or other even organ disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Continue giving the bland diet. I hope Bear gets back to normal quickly. Please feel free to post any additional questions!

Hello. Yes, at this point, a vet visit is recommended. If stool issues continue for more than 3-5 days, sometimes the bacteria in the gut can become altered and an intestinal antibiotic is needed to restore the normal balance. Your vet will probably run a fecal test and May prescribe a medication called Metronidazole or other medications according to the results of the test. Since the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. Since he is going every 3-4 hours it might be a good idea to take him to the vet to prescribe medications to help resolve the diarrhea, especially since he is going in the house at night. If you wanted to try some treatment at home, you could withhold food for 12 hours and then try a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice. If the diarrhea has improved then continue the bland diet for a few days and slowly transition back to his normal food. You could also add a dog probiotic to his diet. Proviable Forte Kit has a probiotic capsule and paste for diarrhea. If the diarrhea continues then he should definitely been seen by your vet.

You should put her on a bland diet (lean, cooked meat with some rice or pasta) for a few days. If she continues to pass diarrhea over the weekend, or if she becomes lethargic or starts to vomit, you should take her to your local vets or call your emergency service.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It sounds like a colitis (inflammation of the colon) which can be brought on by eating something naughty or simply something new (flavor or diet change, treat change). It can also be brought on by stress (change in schedule, new person/animal in the house). In any case, add a probiotic (purina fortiflora for example) and continue the bland diet and I expect the diarrhea to improve after 1-3 days. (Then transition back to her regular diet slowly over 3-5 days.) If at ANY time Lonnie is lethargic, vomiting, not wanting to eat, or you have other concerns, you need to go to the vet clinic right away to make sure it’s nothing more serious.
