My dog had healthy puppies. Will Brucellosis cause stillbirths now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 1 month old

If a dog has Brucellosis will she give birth to still puppies all the time? Because she had puppies last year and they all lived.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Brucellosis is a serious bacterial infection of the reproductive tract and can cause as high as 75% risk of still births or resorption. So I guess it is possible that she could have beat the odds and had a successful litter. Brucellosis can also cause infertility. So if Sparks tested positive she is at risk for failure to conceive, resorption of the fetuses, abortion, still births and puppies dying right after birth. I hope this helps!
