How to safely treat fleas, ticks, and worms on new puppies and mom?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My aunts dog gave birth to five puppies two weeks ago. I am getting one of the puppies once they are old enough. The mom was taken to the vet and she has ticks and fleas. The vet told her that the puppies and the mom should not be dewormed until the puppies are 4 weeks. Either way my aunt is not going to let me give them Nemex-2 until they are 4 weeks. Will the puppies have ticks and fleas too? what is the best way to get them off them and the mom? What are their chances of getting worms?

I like to use a flea comb dipped in a solution of dawn dish soap to comb off the fleas. That is safe and dipping the flea comb in the soapy water will kill the fleas. I would comb them daily and manually remove the ticks. All puppies get intestinal parasites from their Mom. Giving nemex every two weeks once they are four weeks old will take care of them. You can apply Advantage to the mother and place a drop on each pup when they are six weeks old to kill the fleas.
