Why is my 5-month-old kitten grinding teeth? Is it teething or pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2.5 lbs

My kitten is about 5 months old and has just begun grinding her teeth. Is she teething? She doesnt do it often. She is eating and going to the litter as usual and doesn't seem like she is in pain.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! As you suggest teething is likely as this is the time that would be expected. Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, is a classic sign of discomfort or mild pain. I recommend toys for her to chew on which will help with this. This process usually ends at about 7 months of age. Good luck!
