Why is my cat peeing in my sister's room and screaming to get in?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 4 lbs

My cat is a 3 year old female and desperately trying to get to my sisters room to pee. The basement has some open tiles and he uses that to try and get through. If she can’t she screams and screams. The only reason she wants in there is to pee. She very occasionally pees on a bag or something other places but in my sisters room she pees on anything. What can I do to help her?

Hi. Sounds like Casper is in a bit of stress looking to get in to that room. There are a few reasons why kitties will urinate inappropriately. The most common are: urinary tract infections, bladder/kidney stones, inflamed bladder not associated with bacteria (cystitis), or behavioral urination. A couple things to check on is to make sure you have enough litter boxes. The recommended amount is 1 box per cat plus 1. Make sure it gets changed daily. And make sure you use enzymatic cleaner on previous accidents. When you take her in, they will check her urine, an xray of bladder, and possibly bloodwork.
