My cat ate chili sauce and is drooling. Should I call the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

My cat has just started started drooling and behaving oddly. I think she may have contacted some soaking pans in the sink that have the remains of chili garlic sauce and hot pepper seeds. I don't think it was much, but I'm worried. Do I need to try to find help?

Hello, and thanks for your question. Chili pepper ingestion would cause a burning sensation in the mouth which is likely the cause of Gracie's drooling and odd behaviour. You could try offering her some milk which may help to reduce the discomfort in her mouth. It doesn't sound she would have ingested much of the actual chili peppers, so I am not too worried about further problems, but if you do notice any vomiting or diarrhea tonight, I would take her to the vet. They may recommend medication to help settle her tummy, protect her intestines, and reduce nausea. I hope this helps, and that Gracie feels better soon!
