Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 4 months old | 60 lbs

My 5 year old golden retriever chewed a bottle of e cigarette e liquid. The bottle was mainly still full, but there was some small holes. It was a 10ml bottle of 1.6mg strength liquid. This was 3 hours ago. I have given her 2 large bowls of water and she has shown no symptoms - when would symptoms show and when will I know if she will be ok. Thank you

I am attaching a link to a handout about e-cigarette toxicity below. https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=3557 And a link to pet poison website about nicotine. http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poison/nicotine/ I would have expected Hollie to show signs relatively quickly (within 30 minutes), so after 3 hours she should be showing signs (even if you cannot detect them). If she ingested 16 mg of nicotine, that would potentially be below what we would consider toxic, but every dog is different. If Hollie develops any agitation, vomiting, drooling, or any other abnormal clinical signs, please seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that Hollie is fine. Thanks for using PetCoach.
