What's this black lump under my senior cat's chin? Wart or tag?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 12 years and 1 month old

I have just found a black lump under my cats chin. He is nearly 12. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him though he wasn’t too happy when I was trying to feel it. Looks like a scab but when you have a feel it feels round almost like a ball bearing under skin. A bit flappy almost wartlike or like a skin tag maybe. He seems well enough in himself. Eating fine. Happy to be around you and be petted. I’ll try to get him an appointment at vet this week just wondered if you had any ideas just now

Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Clyde. Unfortunately, all your pictures were completely fuzzy, but regardless, it is always best to have lumps & bumps looked at quickly by your veterinarian. Fortunately, most are going to be harmless or benign, but if not, removal at a very early stage is almost always curative. Once you vet has a look, he will recommend the best treatment for Clyde. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
