Why is my dog suddenly lethargic, disoriented, and can't walk?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd - miniature | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 26 days old | 13 lbs

My 9 month old mini Australian Shepherd went from being active and happy to lethargic and disoriented out of nowhere last night. He just wants to lay down and has trouble walking and standing straight. Was wondering what could be causing this.

I am so sorry to hear this. Many things could be causing these signs in Fredo. A thorough exam by a veterinarian may be able to pinpoint the problem more specifically, but problems such as intoxication, meningitis, Addison’s disease, liver shunts, and seizure events are all on my list of possible causes. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
