My cat has scabs spreading on her ears and face. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 5 lbs

My cat, Blossom, started getting "scabby" all along her ears. Thought it might be fleas so I gave her a bath, got a new flea collar, and did what I could. However, I'm not sure fleas are the problem. It seems like the scabs are getting worse, they're spreading to her face, her chin, and a few patches on her body. I've never had this happen so I really don't know what to do! She's always trying to scratch them and it seems real uncomfortable. If you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Blossom! Her skin on her ears looks bad. I think she should see a Vet to diagnose the cause and start treatment. Possible causes are food allergies, ringworm, mites. You can play with her diet and see if changing the protein helps for long term management. If an animal has a food allergy chicken tends to be the most common allegen. But that won’t help her feel better in the short term. Ringworm is diagnosed on fungal culture and mites on a skin scrape. An infection is treated with antibiotics and steroids. I hope this helps and I wish Blossom a speedy recovery!
