Why is my Akita puppy drinking and peeing too much? Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 9 month old American Akita is constantly Drinking and Urinating far too much and im scared that it may be affecting her standing health. We have all already had her urine checked to make sure it wasnt a bladder issue but it did not show a bladder issue up. She has been passed around a few times from a warm loving family, to an owner who doesnt care, to me. I understand this may be out of stress from being renowned but I am still concerned. Get back soon please!

There are many diseases that can cause increased thirst and urination, and if your Akita has not had lab work performed thatmught be the next step to rule out some of these medical causes. Some dogs just tend to drink a lot of water - when it is excessive this syndrome is sometimes called psychogenic polydipsia. While stress might cause some behavior changes like inappropriate urination, I think it would be unusual for stress to cause a dog drink more water.
