Why is my healthy older dog suddenly peeing frequently and having accidents?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 46 years and 11 months old | 28 lbs

My dog is a 12 year ol jack/Rat who is extremely fit and healthy. Lately she’s been peeing really frequently and now she will stand in front of me and squat and pee like she had no choice. She never does this and she doesn’t act like it hurts to pee. When she pees it has no odor or color and is a regular amount. What causes this ?

Hi, I would definitely have Kitty checked over. Poliuria can be a sign of many things, like a urinary tract infection, early kidney disease, early diabetes, Cushing’s and many more ! Hopefully it is nothing to worry about , as she is very lively and fit. However best to rule out everything that if not picked up early could worsen rapidly over the course of time.
