Why is my older dog suddenly vomiting, aggressive, and in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 15 lbs

My dog id eight - nine years. She’s been abused before we had her, but for the last 6, she’s been spoiled and happy. Lately, she’s been vomiting, aggressive w kids and the cat (she never has been), a low appetite, she can no longer jump/won’t let me touch her without yelping and crying. Before she cuddled me all the time. I’m so worried. I know my dog, and this isn’t like her. I’m taking her to her vet tomorrow but I’m in panic mode tonight.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Minnie! She is SO cute! It sounds as though Minnie is very painful! I think it is great you already have an appointment with your Vet because any sudden behavioral change and yelping in pain warrants that! My guess is that she has neck or back pain though the vomiting doesn't fit with that. She could have eaten something that is now stuck causing belly pain or she could have pancreatitis, which is also very painful. After your Vet examines her they will likely want to do blood work and belly X-rays. I hope this helps and I wish Minnie the very best!
