How to prevent my cat's leg surgery stitches from coming out?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | 15 lbs

Hey my cat had surgery on his fron leg and got stitches from his arm pit to elbow area. Its has been two weeks and the stitches around his elbow are not holding and he has exposed skin. I took him back to our vets and they redid the stitiches but the same thing has happened. I don't know what to do to prevent the stitches from coming out. I want my car to heal please help. Thank you.

Due to the area that the stitches are in this may take awhile to properly heal. It is a very mobile area so there is constant movement which makes it difficult to fully heal. It will heal, it will just take time to heal. I recommend if Hagrid can lick at the spot to put an elizabethan collar on him so he doesn't make it worse.
