My dog's skin sounds like crisps after a cut. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 3 years and 1 month old | 50 lbs

My dog has got something under het skin, i dont know if it is air of something else. She does have a small cut between her leg and belly. At first it was only in her leg but now it is all over her body. If you touch her, her skin sounds like a bag of crisps.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Judging from your description, the bag of crisp feeling you are noticing is likely to be air under the skin from the wound you speak of. There may be a large pocket under the skin due to trauma. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Keysi to help determine the extent of the wound so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. The wound may need a drain if there is a large pocket under the skin and she will likely need a course of an antibiotic and pain medication. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
