My dog has bumps. Vet suspects TVT. Should I get a biopsy first?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 88 lbs

so i took my dog to my regular vet and they told she had something called transmissable venereal tumour. they proceeded to tell me i need to have my dog spayed and she will have to go thru radiation.. without doing a biopsy. i breed american bullies. that is not what i want to do, and does not look to me at all like she has that. to me it looks like an infection or herpes. i have been giving her cranberry extract and that is clearing it up. these were like two weeks ago

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sacoya! In order to know if she has TVT a biopsy would need to be done. TVT also doesn't go away. The bumps easily could be an infection. I would ask to try a course of antibiotics and if the lesions do not resolve then remove one for biopsy. I agree the bumps do not look like classic TVT. I hope this helps and I wish Sacoya the best!
