Can I bathe my pet with a fungal infection soon after neuter surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Angora | Male | neutered | 6 months and 10 days old | 6.61 lbs

Hello. Oberin was neutered 3 days ago. During the surgery the vet noticed that he has fungal infection in two places on his skin. He adviced me to was him with reconasol or ketoconasol shampoo. Is it okay to wash him 3 days after the surgery?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Generally, you would want to wait until after 10-14 days after surgery to allow the incision to heal well before bathing him. There are other anti-microbial options that could be considered in the meantime. If this very severe and cannot wait, you can check in with your veterinarian for alternatives. Otherwise, I would wait a bit longer. Good luck!
