My puppy has bloody diarrhea and is on meds. What home care helps?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 13 days old | 6 lbs

Hi, My toy poodle puppy had a very bloody, bright red, poo this morning. I've taken her to the vet and she had a high temp. She is having an antibiotic and panacure dewormer. Is there anything more I can do for my baby - she is 9 months old. Thanks, Moniqi

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I would also initiate a bland diet of chicken and rice and add in a probiotic such as Purina fortiflora which can be found online quite easily or at your local pet store. If she becomes lethargic, vomits, stops eating or the diarrhea becomes much worse, I would make sure she is tested for parvo. Other than the above, finished the medications the vet prescribed and if there is no improvement after, discuss other treatment and diagnostic options with the vet. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
