My 11-year-old dogs are healthy. Do they still need parvo shots?

Are parvovirus immunizations injections definitely necessary for my two 11 years old dogs?

I do recommend keeping up with a dog's vaccines as long as their healthy. They could live for another couple of years, and it's important to make sure they are fully vaccinated so they do not get ill. As I said, as long as they are both healthy, I would get those vaccines done. I hope this helps!

Yes, I would still give Chachi his distemper and parvo vaccine. A life span is only an average for a particular dog, and some dogs do live longer than their predicted life span. Because distemper and parvo are such horrible diseases, it's important to keep up on a dog's vaccines no matter how old they are to make sure they are protected. In my opinion, it's best for his health to have this vaccine. I hope this helps :-)

Can I give a dog 4 years old the parvo vaccine?

In any dog of any age (after puppy vaccines) it is strongly recommended to give the core vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper, Parvo) at least once per year and for Rabies every 1-3 years depending on the requirements in the state which you live in. hi have a 18 year old terrier X she was vacinated for Parvo about 10years ago she never leaves our property we also have a 4year old cavoodle she is vacinated for Parvo my delema is our grandchildren are getting a puppy on the 10th do we have to have
Yes, I would definitely get your 18 year old revaccinated for parvo. She can get it from the puppy, as the puppy will not likely be fully vaccinated for it. It's best for her protection to have this vaccine given again.

I have a 9 year old dog who has never had any shots. Is it too late or is he too old to get vaccinated?
No, he isn't too old to be vaccinated. A rabies vaccine can be given and boosted in 1 year, then every 3 years. The distemper/parvovirus combination (DHPP) can be given, then boosted in 4 weeks. After that, it can be yearly or every 3 years depending on the vaccine. Other vaccines, given based on risk of exposure, include Bordatella, Leptospirosis, Lyme and Canine Influenza. Discuss these as well as monthly heartworm, parasite, flea and tick preventatives. Consider having Fatty neutered as well.

My adult dogs have a 5 in 1 vaccine (DA2P + Parvovirus) once or twice. Can these protect my adult dogs from Parvo?
Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Good question. I always advise that your veterinarian administer vaccines and not the owners. Veterinarians are knowledgeable in the diseases of your area and can advise which vaccines they would like to give your pets. The vaccines are manufactured by known sources and are guaranteed from the manufacturer. If you give your own vaccines, you don't really know who made them, how they were shipped, what temperature they sat it, and if something happens they typically won't guarantee anything if your dog gets sick. If the vaccines are modified live vaccines, your adult dogs only need one shot which will last for one year. If the vaccines are killed, they will need one shot and then a booster shot in 3-4 weeks, and then one year later. No vaccine is 100% effective but most adult dogs don't get Parvo as long as they have been vaccinated for it. Good luck

Can a two year old dog get parvo if he's had a parvo shot?
Most adult dogs that were appropriately vaccinated against parvo as puppies - meaning 3 different vaccinations, given no earlier than 8 weeks of age and proceeding at 3 - 4 week intervals - are protected against contracting parvovirus, as long as they receive booster vaccinations as recommended. Typically, the recommendation is one vaccination on the one year anniversary of the last puppy vaccination, and then re-vaccination every 3 years after. Just one parvo vaccination is unlikely to be completely effective, but it may provide some protection, and if he contracts the disease it will likely be a milder form.

As long as your two dogs had their vaccines as a puppy all they need each year is a booster of the core vaccines. Core vaccines are considered vital to all pets based on risk of exposure, severity of disease or transmissibility to humans These are:. Canine parvovirus, distemper, canine hepatitis and rabies are considered core vaccines Non-core vaccines are given depending on your dog's exposure risk. These include vaccines against Bordetella bronchiseptica (kennel cough), Borrelia burgdorferi and Leptospira bacteria.

It depends on what vaccines they have had. Rabies and Distemper do not likely need to be bolstered. Leptospirosis or Lyme likely need to be. It depends on the type of Bordetella vaccine being used if it will need a vaccine. Yes, absolutely get the dogs caught back up on vaccines and I recommend to have them on a flea and heartworm prevention (pick Interceptor or Heartgard as they have the best protect against intestinal worms) too as stuff like that (no heartworms but intestinal worms) are often found at dog parks. I had a puppy which had parvo virus. Im afraid my 3senior dogs may get infected by it.. to be honest i have no moneyfor the vaccines.. is there any other way to prevebt them from getting sick?? 2 of them are 11 years abd one which is 3 years old. Tha
If they had enough vaccines as younger dogs, then they hopefully have adequate immunity. They have likely already been exposed, but the best you can do is to disinfect everything the puppy touched with 1:32 diluted bleach and to keep them separated for 2 weeks (puppies can continue to shed the virus for several days after recovering from illness). Make sure to change clothes and wash well after being with the puppy.

I have a new puppy in the house, along with his father, they ate both dachshunds, I gave the puppy his parvo shot, but my older dog was a rescue dog I rescued about a year ago, and I did not give my older dog the parvo shot, will my older dog get
Your older dog will only get parvo if 1.) he's not sufficiently vaccinated and 2.) he's exposed to parvo. The puppy needs 3 parvo/distemper combination vaccinations given 3 - 4 weeks apart, starting at least by 8 weeks of age. Your older dog should have had the same series as a puppy - I suggest you review the records given to you by the rescue when you adopted him. Sometimes, we will give an adult dog only 2 parvo/distemper vaccinations to consider them completely protected. So you need to determine your older dog's vaccination history before you can determine whether he (the older dog) would get parvo, if exposed to it. If your older dog is not vaccinated at all he needs to start getting vaccinated right away. The best person to do this is a veterinarian, who can ensure that he is healthy and able to mount an adequate immune response to the vaccination. Both dogs also need rabies shots, and in the US only a license veterinarian can do that.
