This is often due to nerve damage. If King is also experiencing difficulty walking in his hind-end, then I would be very suspicious of spinal nerve damage. They can also have difficulty with eliminating when they have pelvic injuries or other conditions causing pain in the general area. Internal masses, or an enlarged prostate can also lead to difficulties eliminating. In either case, it's best to have a vet examine King, because this is a serious problem that often has a serious cause. The vet will be able to narrow-down the cause of this with an exam and offer the necessary tests and treatment. I hope that helps and King gets better soon.
