My cat's tail wound looks infected. What OTC pain meds or antibiotics?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 15 lbs

My 2 year old male cat has a open wound on his tail and it looks infected. It looks blue in color. What can I give him over the counter as a pain med or antibiotics

Poor Flower! It definitely looks infection. You can try some Neosporin twice a day. I would also put a cone collar on him to prevent licking. Licking it will only prevent healing and could even make it worse. There are not any OTC pain meds that I would recommend. Most are toxic to cats. You can give baby aspirin but I would read the article below carefully and proceed with extreme caution. I would not give it unless you feel like he is in a lot of pain and you are truly unable to see a vet. See link below. There are not any OTC oral antibiotics available. https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/cat/aspirin/ If the wound isn't improving, if he seems in a lot of pain, or if the wound is deep, I would have a vet take a look at it if possible. The vet will be able to properly clean it and treat the wound. The will be able to get him started on oral antibiotics or give him an antibiotic injection if needed. They can also prescribe him safer pain meds if needed. I hope this helps!
