Why won't my 11-week-old puppy eat all his food? What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 10 days old | 15 lbs

My puppy is 11 weeks old, and he's not been eating all of the food I put out for him (2/3 of a cup BID). No V/D. If I hand feed him, he will eat some of it but then become disinterested.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is not uncommon for puppies to not show a completely normal appetite at times. I recommend that you try a highly palatable diet such as Purina Pro Plan shredded blends. Also, you may use dog grade gravy or pieces of boiled chicken to be mixed with his food to try to improve his appetite. Otherwise, it is very likely that Tucker will be fine. They will usually eat until they are not hungry and then resume eating when they feel like eating again. Good luck and have a great day!
