My dog is limping after injury. Should I rest her or see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Kelpie | Female | 5 years and 11 months old | 25 lbs

I have a 5 year old Kelpie called Meg. We were playing cricket on the street day before yesterday and she has hurt both her front left paw and right leg .she is limping but I don't think it is bad and don't want to take her to the vet. What should I do to help her. Should I let her rest?

Hello, and thank you for your question. Meg is a beautiful girl! I would recommend resting her for the next 24 hours (no running, jumping, or rough housing). If her limping does not improve by then, then I would recommend taking her to the vet to rule out a possible sprain/strain, dislocation, or fracture. They may be able to detect this through physical exam alone, or with the help of x-rays as well. I hope this helps, and that Meg feels better soon!
