Dog with lumbosacral disease on prednisone: Can incontinence improve?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 7 years and 4 months old | 100 lbs

7.5 y/o golden retriever been diagnosed with lumbosacral disease. Started treatment of prednisone. Helping some with pain but is having problems with incontinence. Can he recover at this point?

I'm very sorry to hear about poor Riley. I know how sad it is to see your dog like this. If the disease has progressed over multiple weeks and caused incontinence, then the chances of him regaining this function would be very small. If he had incontinence within a couple of days after being diagnosed, then the chances of recovery are better, but depends on his particular case. One thing to keep in mind is that the prednisone will cause an increase in thirst and urination. This can increase the chances of him having accidents, so I would want to rule that out, before considering it incontinance. The best person to ask about this is the vet that diagnosed the condition. They will know more about Riley's case and be able to give a more accurate response. I hope that helps and Riley gets better.
