My dog's stomach is swollen, hungry. Is it bloat? Can I feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 11 years and 8 months old | 24 lbs

If my dog's stomach looks swollen or bloated but she's hungry, should I feed her a little? She shows no other signs/symptoms of that scary bloat.

If it was bloat causing the belly to look swollen, then you would also notice other signs such as retching and labored breathing. A swollen belly can indicate other problems such as ascites, or organ enlargement, so if you have noticed Penny having any other problems lately, then it would be best to have her examined by a vet. Otherwise, you are safe to feed her. I hope that helps and all is well with Penny.
