What are these dark, bumpy skin patches on my bearded dragon?

My bearded dragon has these dark patches of skin on her back, which are bumpy and then on her stomach she has a few which are bigger.

These could be localized fungal or bacterial infection. You would need to have Minnie physically examined by your veterinarian or an experienced herp vet for confirmation. Prescription medications may be indicated. In the meantime, clean and sanitize her enclosure. Control humidity to prevent bacterial or fungal overgrowth. Cleansing affected areas with diluted Betadine may help resolve minor infection.

It could be a minor localized infection, possibly a cricket bite or just dry scale. A physical exam would be needed to definitively diagnose the issue. In the meantime, clean and sanitize the cage and change bedding. Use paper towels as substrate for the time being. Change them daily. Soak Lizzie in a warm diluted betadine solution. Use a soft bristled toothbrush to gently scrub affected areas. A dab of Silvadene cream can be used if needed. See your veterinarian or an experienced herp vet if the spots worsen or spread.

It may be a burn, but it looks like it could be a bacterial or fungal infection. If you have a heating pad, be sure to use a thermostat or rheostat to prevent overheating and burns. Maintain proper environmental parameters and avoid excessive humidity which can foster bacterial or fungal overgrowth. It looks like it could be yellow skin disease. It is becoming more common in beardies and is thought to be caused by a fungus. The antifungal/antibacterial properties of the Flamazine cream (silver sulfadiazine) likely resolved the previous infection. Have Dude examined by your veterinarian or an experienced herp veterinarian for confirmation. A culture and/or biopsy of the area may provide an answer. If it is fungal, topical treatment may work but systemic treatment is usually more effective. Clean and sanitize the cage, furniture and bowls. Monitor and prevent elevated humidity levels which can promote fungal or bacterial overgrowth.

The most common cause is a fungus with a long name: Chrysosporium Anamorph of Nanniziopsis vriesii. It is better known as CANV. It is an aggressive infection with a guarded prognosis. Even with treatment, it can kill within 18 months. You can quickly do an online search for "CANV" or "Yellow Skin Disease" for images, but a diagnosis must come from a veterinarian, preferably one experienced in treating reptiles. A culture or biopsy can be submitted for pathology after an exam. In the meantime, keep Lenny warm and as stress free as possible. Isolate him from other reptiles and wash your hands thoroughly after handling him. If he comes back positive for CANV, treatment is a combination of oral and topical antifungals.

Chinese Water Dragon has brown/black spots?
Thanks for reaching out about Rango and including a photo. By the picture, could these be on the surface of the skin, do they scratch off? Melanin pigments are often the result of a trauma to the skin. This darkening will often go away once the insult if removed. Insults could be sharp bark, mites, infections and more. If the problems progresses, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Try giving a bath in clean water. Good luck.

From the pictures it appears to be an infection. This infection could be bacterial or fungal. It is possible she had trauma to hip lip that started it. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian because she will need medications to clear it up.

Without an image or physical exam, it can be difficult to determine exactly what is going on. It could be a bacterial or fungal infection, skin from shedding or trauma (burn, abrasion, etc). Ideally, Iggy should be examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles. To much humidity can promote bacterial or fungal overgrowth, too little humidity can lead to difficult sheds. Make sure Iggy cannot come into contact with either the heat lamp or UVB light source. Minor infection can be treated with daily cleanings using diluted Betadine or Chlorhexidine. Clean and sanitize the cage and use plain paper towels as substrate to make cleaning easier until the issue is resolved.

Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites. Monitor Drogon for difficulty breathing, blowing bubbles, lethargy, or odd sounds while breathing. These are symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. Parasites or URI may cause the condition you are seeing. Bump cage temps up by about 5F for a few days. Soak him in a warm 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte twice daily for 15-20 minutes. Make sure the UVB light source is not older than 6 months and use quality vitamin and mineral supplements. If Drogon gets worse or does not begin eating soon, have him examined by an experienced herp veterinarian.

Thanks for reaching out about Terra. Reptiles can often use melanin pigments as a form of the immune system. A minor wound such as scratch could of being the original trauma, Terra's immune system moved melanin to the area as a way to fight an infection.
