Puppy pawing at mouth, won't drink. Does she need an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 7 days old | 60 lbs

I think my puppy has something stuck in her mouth, and I’m worried about her, but I really can’t afford an emergency vet unless I have to. It started about 20 minutes ago. She keeps pawing at her mouth and she can eat but won’t drink. I tried looking in her mouth several times with a flashlight but I don’t see anything. Any ideas? Do you think I should take her in?

Yes, definitely take Winnie into a vet right away. From your description, it sounds like there is something causing her extreme discomfort and she could have something stuck in her mouth or may have eaten something caustic. I think it's worth rushing her into a vet now, especially since I can't see her in person. I hope this helps, good luck!
