Cat stool issues: Is a GI panel needed? Can it still be parasites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi there! I was recently advised to get my kitty's vit b levels checked as well as do a pancreatic function test and bloodwork to determine nutrient absorption by the intestines ( because of blood and mucous in stool ). Does that all fall under a GI panel ? Also , if she had two negative fecal tests (about a month apart ) could it still be possible she has a parasite? (Recent bloodwork is normal ) Thank you !

Hi, thanks for using Pet Coach forum. Yes, usually vitamin B12, folate and pancreatic test are included in the complete GI (gastrointestinal) panel. There are many different fecal tests but I am sure your vet has chosen the one most appropriate for your kitty and, as they are negative, the vets need further information (blood test) to reach a definitive diagnosis for your cat gastrointestinal problem. Good luck and post again on the forum if you need further advices. I hope my answer was helpful.
