Puppy nails are sharp and hurting mom. How do I trim them safely?

Loki had puppies 12 days ago, and there claws are pretty sharp and long, and I'm sure it must be hurting her to nurse them. Should I cut them? With nail clippers? How much should i cut? Will it ruin the end or how they grow? Thanks. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 55 lbs

These little claws can be damaging to the mom and cutting them would be helpful. It's also good to get them used to having their nails clipped at a young age. There is definitely a technique and landmarks to watch for when cutting them to avoid cutting the fleshy part of the nail. It's best to just trim the tips when first doing nail trims.
