My dog ate cat worm medicine. Is it safe for them to ingest?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 45 lbs

I gave my dogs cat worm medicine by mistake are they gonna be ok they appear to be fine so far its hartz ultraguard rid worm liquid for cats and kittens contains 275 mg of piperazine per teaspoon

Hello. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Great question. Yes, they should be fine. If you gave the cats dog dewormer that would not be good. Do not give the dogs any more dewormer at this stage. Wait at least 7 days before you give them the correct dewormer. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

However, it is very important to find out if there are worms present so that the one that is used is used against something in particular. If the right dose is used, in general dewormers tend to be safe. If you are concerned about worms in your kitty, it would be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a great day!

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. As long as the worming tablet was in for about 30min then you don't need to give a second tablet. However a 2nd tablet, as long as it is one designed for cats, won't cause a problem. They have very high safety margins. Best of luck with your kittens!

Hi and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco. Generally speaking the active ingredients in most of these dewormers for dogs have a very wide margin of safety so giving another dose by accident is not likely to cause any significant issues.

I gave my cat 1.5cc of Strongid liquid for round worms, and then by accidentally gave it to him again today. I forgot that I had given it to him yesterday. Is this overdose dangerous?
No that is fine. Luckily strongid is a very safe medication. I like to write down on a calendar when I treat my pets because I sometimes forget too. That way I can check before I give more. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Moo.

My cat had worms in his vomit. I have worm medication but it's a little over a year expired. Would it be safe to give to him?
The expired dewormer will probably not harm your cat but it may not be very effective. I would recommend taking a stool sample to your vet to be checked and have them recommend a dewormer that will cover whatever specific parasites your cat has. I hope this helps. This should not be given to kittens. First off, it's labeled for dogs only, plus it's only safe in puppies at least six weeks of age. Do not give this again to the kittens, and have them checked out by a vet in the morning to make sure they are ok. In terms of deworming, it's safe for them to have Panacur. I hope this helps!

No worries. There is a wide safetly margin with the amount of dewormer a pet can have in one sitting. Olive will be just fine with the dewormer and heartworm prevention given at the same time. : ) In fact we give heartworm prevention and bi-annual dewormers together all the time. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If the first medication was only for round worms and wasn't broad spectrum (gets tapeworm too) then you can give a 2nd dewormer that JUST gets tape worms. I hope this helps and I wish Babycakes the best!
