Why is my hand-reared cockatiel not eating and sleeping again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

My neighbor is hand rearing a cockatiel for my daughter. He stopped eating last week and was sleeping a lot so she went back to 3 hourly feeds and he started to come good. Was eating better, vocal, etc. Now he’s not eating again. Any advice?

If the problem keeps returning even with adjustments to his feeding schedule, it could indicate an underlying issues such as an illness, physical or genetic deformity, or some other cause of failing to thrive. It would be best to have him examined by a local avian vet to rule out any serious issues that could be causing his problem and to help monitor his growth as he is being raised.
