Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 85 lbs
Someone told me that giving the dog his own dog food as a treat would have the same effect as giving him real treats. Is this true?

Yes. That is true. When the dog gets a treat from you it is more about the act of getting something (anything) from you and bonding with you rather than being about what type of treat they are actually getting. Of course there are some foods/treats a dog will prefer but health-wise it is best to just give the dog food. Hope this answers your question. Best wishes.
